Zinc plating and hot dip galvanizing are two mainstream anti-rust surface treatments for steel fasteners. The two processes differ greatly in coating thickness, cost and corrosion resistance.
Electro zinc plating (zinc plating) produces thin zinc layer around 5~15μm. It has bright and smooth surface, low cost, suitable for indoor dry environment. The thin coating will fail quickly in coastal or rainy outdoor conditions.
Hot dip galvanizing forms thick zinc alloy layer of 85μm or more. It offers long term anti-corrosion performance for outdoor, salty and humid environments. But HDG surface is matte, rough, and thread fit needs special attention.
Select zinc plating for interior decoration projects; choose hot dip galvanizing for long-life outdoor infrastructure.
